When Do You Need to Register?

Timing matters, because PTA does not wait forever.

The moment you put a Pakistani SIM into a new phone, a 60-day countdown begins. You can use the phone normally during this time, but once 60 days pass without registration, the SIM gets blocked. So do not leave it until the last day.

There is also a separate rule for people visiting from abroad. Overseas Pakistanis and foreign travellers can register a phone temporarily and use it free for up to 120 days from their date of arrival, through the same DIRBS portal. This is meant for short visits, so you are not forced to pay full tax just to use your own phone for a few weeks.

A few simple mistakes trip people up. Knowing them in advance saves you money and trouble.

Checking only one IMEI on a dual-SIM phone. If your phone has two IMEI numbers, check both. A phone can look fine on one and have an issue on the other.
