What is PTA Tax in Pakistan?
PTA tax is the official mobile phone registration fee that every imported smartphone must pay before it can use local SIM networks in Pakistan. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), working with FBR (Federal Board of Revenue), requires all imported devices to be registered through the DIRBS system. Without this registration, your phone cannot run on Jazz, Zong, Ufone, Telenor, or SCO. This PTA mobile tax applies to all phones used in Pakistan for more than 60 days, whether you bring the device from abroad or buy it locally from an unregistered source.
Why is PTA Mobile Tax Required?
Pakistan introduced PTA mobile tax to regulate imported devices, generate government revenue, and prevent the use of stolen or counterfeit phones. Every phone sold or used in Pakistan must be traceable through the DIRBS system. If PTA mobile tax check online shows your phone as non-compliant, it means the device has not been registered and will be blocked from Pakistani networks after the grace period. The PTA mobile tax rate varies depending on the phone price in USD and your registration type.
Which Phones Need PTA Registration?
All smartphones brought into Pakistan from abroad need PTA registration. This includes every brand iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, Nokia, and more. Even locally purchased phones that were originally imported without tax registration need to be PTA approved. The pta tax in pakistan applies equally to new and used devices. If you are unsure whether your phone needs registration, use the PTA mobile tax calculator above to verify instantly. Our calculator covers 261 models across 19 brands.
PTA Tax Rates 2026 Updated Complete List
The PTA tax rates are officially set by FBR in the annual budget and apply to all imported mobile phones in Pakistan. As of April 2026, FBR Valuation Ruling 2070 introduced updated rates for phones. The exact PTA mobile registration fees depend on your specific phone model rather than just USD value brackets.
PTA Tax Structure
Your total PTA approved price includes the base tax amount set by FBR for your phone's value bracket, plus 17% sales tax (ad valorem) on the customs value. The exact amount depends on your phone's FBR customs value, current USD to PKR exchange rate, and your registration type (CNIC or Passport). Passport registration typically saves 15-25% compared to CNIC for phones above $200.
PTA Tax Update 2026
As per the latest PTA taxes update for April 2026 under FBR Valuation Ruling 2070, phones now have model-specific valuations rather than simple bracket-based rates. All taxes continue to be calculated on C&F (Cost and Freight) value. The PTA tax system remains fully active and mandatory. Overseas Pakistanis can register one phone tax-free for up to 120 days per visit to Pakistan. Our calculator always reflects the latest approved PTA tax rates.
PTA Approved Price CNIC vs Passport Comparison
PTA approved price is the total amount you pay to legally register your phone in Pakistan. It covers customs duty, sales tax, withholding tax, and regulatory duty all combined into one PTA approval fee. Your PTA proof price depends on your phone model and registration type. Passport registration is significantly cheaper for high-value devices.
CNIC vs Passport Registration
CNIC Registration
For Pakistani residents. No time limit. Applies to local purchases and phones brought without prior registration. Most affordable for budget phones under $100.
Passport Registration
For overseas Pakistanis and travelers. Valid for 60 days from arrival. Saves 15-25% on flagships above $200. One phone free for 120 days per visit.
When Should You Use Passport Registration?
If you recently traveled abroad or are an overseas Pakistani visiting Pakistan, always register using your Passport. The PTA approval charges on Passport are significantly lower for phones above $200. For example, on a flagship phone like iPhone 17 Pro Max, Passport registration can save you thousands of rupees compared to CNIC. You must pay the PTA registration fee within 60 days of arriving in Pakistan to qualify for Passport rates. After 60 days, only CNIC registration is available regardless of your status.
What is PTA Proof Price?
PTA proof price is the exact tax amount shown on your DIRBS payment slip after generating a PSID. It is the official pta approved price for your specific device. The pta proof price in pakistan may differ slightly from calculator estimates because it uses the exact FBR customs value for your phone model and the current USD to PKR exchange rate at the time of registration. The pta price in pakistan shown in our calculator is an accurate estimate based on current April 2026 rates.

How to Calculate PTA Tax on Mobile
Our PTA duty calculator handles all calculations automatically. But understanding how to calculate PTA tax manually helps you verify whether the amount is correct.
PTA Tax Calculation Formula
Base Tax Amount
Fixed by FBR per phone model's USD price bracket. This is the starting point before sales tax.
17% Sales Tax
Calculated on the FBR customs value of your phone in PKR. This amount changes when USD to PKR rate changes so final pta tax price may vary slightly.
FBR Customs Value
FBR sets a fixed USD value for each phone model. This is different from the market price. Our mobile pta tax calculator uses these official FBR values for accurate results.
Exchange Rate Impact
When the PKR weakens against USD, your pta approved price increases even if the base rate stays the same. Always calculate at the time of registration for accuracy.
Example Calculation
For a flagship phone with a customs value of $500 or above, the base CNIC tax is higher. If the FBR customs value in PKR is PKR 140,000, the 17% sales tax is PKR 23,800. Our pta phone tax calculator does this for you instantly just select your phone model above to see your exact amount.
